PLAYER PROFILES |
||
During the '06-07 season, over 250 Chicago poker players competed in this 60-tournament series. Top-scoring players from the regular season then participated in playoff rounds to qualify for the 2007 No-Limit Poker Grand Championship. The following ten players consistently achieved the highest scores over the entire sequence of tournaments. |
||
NATE BEAL. During the 2006 qualifying season, Nate made 17 Final Tables, disproportionately finishing in the Top 3 eight times. Ranking 7th overall in Main Event points, had he started earlier in the year his finish would undoubtedly be even higher. Nate's aggressive style of play reflects a natural love for sports and competition and proves that luck often follows the aggressor.
DON CROSBIE. A patient and calculating player, Don's tournament style is to break the event into segments and put himself in a position to win. This explains his consistent appearance at Final Tables, particularly in the toughest Championship events. In 2007 Don tied for third in total Championship Final Tables appearances, behind only Fabian Ramos and Neville White.
RITTA DANKHA. Ritta brings tremendous passion and determination to the table and has an obvious love for the game. Third only to Ramos and White in regular season Final Tables, Ritta logged 9 Top Three finishes. A great strength is her capacity to play for hours without losing energy or focus. Like other great players, she can literally wear the opposition down. Ritta topped off an incredible season with two victories at the 2007 Grand Championship, taking both the No-Limit HELO-5 and No-Limit Holdem Titles.
IWONA FILUCIAK. Iwona made 19 regular season Final Tables including six Top 3 finishes. Her Playoff record was particularly impressive, finishing 4th in Playoff Total Points. Opponents find her style difficult to read and nobody turned over more dominating hands during the Playoffs, including perfect 7 lows, and 4 of a kind in 5-stud. Iwona's memorable style led to her feature in a 2006 Chicago Tribune poker pictorial.
MERRI FURLONG. Merri has a natural gift for poker. Unflappable, she reads people and situations so well. A master of all games as proven by victories in both the No-Limit Lowball and No-Limit Omaha 2007 Grand Championships. During the regular season Merri made 26 Final Tables including 5 Top Three finishes. With more than enough professional talent now, if Merri continues her rate of improvement she truly has "No Limit".
JENNIFER LEWKOWICZ. Jennifer joined the competition late in the 2006 series and parlayed great Playoff results into a ticket for the 2007 Grand Championship. Nobody did more with their opportunities as she went on to record three 3rd Place finishes in the Grand Championship proving her skills at all varieties of poker! An unflappable player, Jennifer is a great judge of people and situations and has an uncanny sense of player strength and weakness.
MAVERICK MARQUEE. Rated 8th in total regular season tournament points, Maverick made 18 Final Tables and finished 1st or 2nd in six of them! In the toughest Championship events, he made 4 Final Tables with a 1st and 3rd place finish and he won it all at Five Card Stud in the 2007 No Limit Grand Championship. His unpredictable style makes him right at home among the most diverse group of players. Maverick changes his style from conservative to aggressive extremes to fit the situation and keep the opposition guessing.
FABIAN RAMOS. Fabian's 2006 record speaks for itself. In the regular season he made 39 Final Tables, 19 Top Three's, and 6 first place finishes. Even more impressive he made 9 Playoff Final Tables, winning four of them. Fabian is a true pro-level player in every respect. Patient, calculating, and difficult to put on tilt, he can play a solid game for hours and capitalize on his opponents mistakes. For over a year this Chicago legend has proven himself a consistent winner at every game from Lowball to Stud to Holdem.
JOE RONDON. Ranked ninth in regular season play and 5th in Playoff events, Joe uses his solid image to maximum advantage, peppering his conservative style with slow plays, check raises and stone bluffs behind an unreadable demeanor. It's no wonder that new players to the tournament series often pointed to Joe as the player they most respected.
NEVILLE WHITE. Neville is Chicago's "psychological warrior" at the poker table. Nobody is more likely to rattle nerves and put his opponents on tilt. In 2007 he used a natural combination of stealth, boldness, and complete unpredictability to reach 33 regular season Final Tables, second only to Fabian Ramos. Along the way he recorded 10 Top Three finishes including 5 first place victories, and earned the coveted Player of the Year 1st Runner Up award.
